As of August 1, 2010 annual vehicle inspections are no longer required in the state of New Jersey. Yet, inspections remain part of Pennsylvania law and you should expect them to remain so.
Vehicle inspections check basic safety features on passenger cars such as brakes and lights. Safety advocates worry that without these required inspections people would drive cars that are unsafe and cause accidents.
In 2009, Pennsylvania commissioned a study that compared crash data in the approximately 20 states that require inspections to the states that do not require inspections. The study found that Pennsylvania’s vehicle inspections prevent between 115 -169 fatal crashes each year.
