Should the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Helmet Law be Changed?

Should the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Helmet Law be Changed?

In 2003, Pennsylvania revoked its mandatory motorcycle helmet law and made it legal for the majority of motorcyclists to ride without a helmet. Since then debate has continued, and a new motorcycle helmet law has been proposed and is pending before the state legislature.

Opponents of the proposed Pennsylvania motorcycle helmet law argue that the decision about whether or not to wear a helmet should be an individual decision and not one imposed by the government. Supporters of the bill disagree. They argue that accident injuries caused by the lack of a helmet cost the state millions of dollars a year in hospital and long term care expenses.

Yet, some do not believe this bill will ever make it out of committee. As a Pennsylvania motorcycle accident lawyer, this is a bill that I will be watching closely and will certainly report on if it becomes law.
