How Old is Too Old to Drive?

The answer to that question is not a chronological age but rather a combination of factors that may make an older person dangerous to himself or to others.  If your loved one is experiencing any of the following signs then it might be time for him to stop driving and to start taking alternative forms of transportation.

Specifically, you should be considered about an older driver’s:

  • Vision;
  • Hearing;
  • Cognitive or Mental Function;
  • General Health;
  • Medications that May Interfere With Safe Driving; and
  • Reflexes.

If you believe that your loved one is no longer able to drive a car safely, talk to him.  Remember, it is difficult to lose the freedom associated with driving.  Be sensitive to that fact, but also be firm in your commitment to maintaining your loved one’s safety and to helping your loved one avoid causing a Pennsylvania car accident.
