7 PA Towns File Fracking Lawsuit

fracking-siteLast week, seven Pennsylvania municipalities filed a fracking lawsuit. They challenged the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s authority to allow fracking despite local ordinances preventing drilling. The municipalities included five towns in Southwestern Pennsylvania and two in Bucks County.

The lawsuit alleges that the state law is an improper and arbitrary use of police power and will require townships to plan around the drilling in their communities which interferes with proper zoning and town planning.

The state statute goes into effect on April 14, 2012. That’s unless legal action postpones or prevents the law from taking effect.
