New Truck Regulations Took Effect July 1 But Will They Make You Safer?

As of July 1, 2013 new truck regulations to prevent driver fatigue and related accidents went into effect. The regulations, first announced in December 2011, limit the average work week for truckers to 70 hours and require that drivers be provided with rest breaks.

What Impact Will This Have?

The government anticipates that 85% of the trucking industry will be unaffected by these changes. However, the impact may still be significant. It is estimated that the changes will save approximately 19 lives, 560 injuries and 1400 accidents a year.

This is important. Yet, it also won’t eliminate all truck accident injuries and fatalities.
